Teacher Blog Reviews

While looking for blogs, I narrowed my search down to four of them, most of them are geared towards Pre-Kindergarten age, however, some have activities for toddlers and one of them is gear specifically for toddlers through preschool.

Pre-K Pages created by Vanessa Levin, appropriate for Pre-K-Kindergarten

http://www.pre-kpages.com/

This blog has different topics, such as literacy, assessment, classroom management, and math organized in an easy to navigate list format. She has created a wealth of resources that you can download for a small fee per packet.

I really like that the materials are colorful and easy to use. She has taken her experience and created extremely user friendly materials that can be printed and implemented immediately with very little extra preparation, other than laminating.

1+1+1=1 created by by Carisa, appropriate for toddlers through grade school

http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/index.html

I have used Carisa's website for many, many materials.  She homeschools her three children, from a toddler through third grade, and has created a significant amount of materials that she freely shares (or charges a small fee for a membership). She has themes ranging from classic literature to transportation to insects. Each theme pack contains labels, books, and activities, depending on the age group. She has pack for tots up through grade school. The materials are all age appropriate, colorful, and most important, engaging to the child.

PreKinders created by Karen Cox, appropriate for young preschoolers through Pre-Kindergarten/Preschool

Karen Cox has created a plethora of word cards, activities, and classroom management strategies. She shares a good deal of her materials freely although she charges a small fee for some of the larger packets and theme packets. The themes and materials are laid out in a user friendly manner and links are provided throughout her blog and website in order to access ideas and materials quickly and easily. She posts photos that illustrate her centers and classroom set up and has created a simple to use classroom management section that includes strategies for the first few days of school to behavior management strategies.

Toddlers Through Preschool is a blog created by Cathie, appropriate for toddlers through preschool

http://toddlersthroughpreschool.com/

Cathie is a mother and grandmother who has been working with children for 25 years. She writes an engaging blog that shares ideas that can be implemented with the young children using household materials. One of her entries explains how she took one of her grandchildren to a cafeteria and they identified letters, shapes, sizes, and textures using condiment packages that they had on their trays.

The activities that she does with her grandchildren are simple, but effective. She includes letter identification, number practice, patterning, and colors. She does science experiments with them using snow and ice.

One thing that I particularly like about Cathie's methods is that she allows the children to dictate how long an activity should run, if they are engaged, they keep working, if not, then they do something else.

Cathie also has a variety of links, recipes for different types of dough, and a section of materials that she charges a small fee for.
